Why get your ducts
cleaned?
Heating a clean home with a
dirty system is like drinking through a dirty straw! Most
build-up in your system comes from everyday dirt in the air. The
furnace's own air filter helps, but can't do the job effectively
and dirt will be recirculated into your home. Not only does this
decrease your system's efficiency, it also introduces molds and
pollutants into your home.
Benefits of a Duct
Cleaning
- Increases efficiency up
to 30% or more
- Reduced heating and
cooling costs
- HVAC system will need
less maintenance and will last longer
- A cleaner, healthier
environment for the home and workplace
- A reduction in sick
days and medical costs
How can I clean my
ducts?
The average two-story home
has over 180 feet of duct work, which can harbor as much as 3
inches of filth in places. It's often thought a shop vac or
other company's cleaning systems can do the job effectively.
Unfortunately this is usually not true, these methods can only
scratch the surface.
The Schneider Heating Power
Vack System, with it's huge vacuum, powered by a special 4
cylinder engine, is the only way to effectively eliminate dirt
and debris in your heating system without replacing it.
Schneider Heating's Power Vac
and one carefully trained professional take only about 2 hours
to clean an entire system. In most cases we access the system
from the basement. Then, by carefully blocking off your
registers, and using our Power Vac system, we can create a
vacuum with enough power to move a brick! Our trained
professional will remove dirt and debris quickly without any
risk of damage to the system.
How often should I have
my ducts cleaned?
Your duct system should be
cleaned every three years, even if your home is new. A duct
system should also be cleaned after remodeling or renovating.
Duct Cleaning could be the healthiest home improvement you will
ever make. Here are some considerations you should make if you
feel you might need your ducts cleaned.
- Most people spend 60% to 90% of their time indoors.
(American Lung Association)
- More than 50 million Americans suffer from allergies. The
level of some hazardous pollutants in indoor air has been found
to be up to 70 times greater than in outdoor air. (USEPA)
- Children and the elderly are especially affected by polluted
indoor air. (Department of Consumer Affairs)
-1 out of 6
people who suffer from allergies does so because of the direct
relationship to the fungi and bacteria in the air ductwork
system.
- Studies have shown that two out of three indoor air quality
problems involve the HVAC system. Mold, pollen and dust are just
a few of the ingredients that make up the refuse in your heating
& air conditioning duct system. Duct cleaning provides
allergy relief, eliminates odors, reduces dust & house work.
Dirt, dust and other
particulates do tremendous harm to your HVAC system . . .
- NINE OUT OF TEN EQUIPMENT FAILURES ARE CAUSED BY
DIRT AND DUST in you HVAC system (Louisiana Cooperative
Extension Service)
- Clean systems restore capacity and lessen running
time.
- Dirty ductwork and filters retard the flow of air
so the HVAC system has to run longer to reach the desired
thermostat temperature. Less running time translates directly to
longer equipment life.
- A buildup of .042 inches of dirt on a heating or
cooling coil can result in a decrease in efficiency of 21% or
more.
- Any combustion fuel (gas, oil, propane, and
kerosene) causes soot, carbon, dust, and dirt to accumulate on
the inside of your heat exchanger. The buildup acts like a
blanket of insulation. Heat must pass through this buildup to
reach the ductwork and to pass into the home or workplace. This
will drastically decrease efficiency.
- Coils on air conditioners and heat pumps also
build up a layer of dirt and dust and need periodic cleaning.
So if you or a member of
your family suffers from breathing problems due to allergies or
asthma or it's been more than three years since your last duct
cleaning, or you've never had your ducts cleaned, it's time to
call for a free estimate, because most home and commercial
establishments can be cleaned for less than you may think.
